Susan was asked in 2010 to become the Director of Discipleship after having served for seven years as the leader of Frazer's Women's Ministry, first as a volunteer and later as a part time staff member. Being Director of Discipleship involves coordinating all of our ministries that help people grow in their faith, from children to older adults, through small groups, Bible study classes and mentoring.
Her spiritual journey began when she accepted Jesus as Savior at age 8, and over the years a key theme for her has been surrender. One of her favorite songs is the old classic, "Trust and Obey," which reflects her life verse, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not to your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths." (Prov. 3:5-6) She says God has helped her to surrender pride, worry, being a workaholic, and being overly controlling, among other things. In the process she learned that surrendering control to God leads to true freedom. As a result, she says it breaks her heart to see people who are living in bondage and don’t know how to live in the freedom of Christ. She is passionate about listening to people's stories and helping them develop a plan for living in freedom every day.
Beauty is important to Susan in many ways. She was in the fashion industry for 20 years and she loves helping others shop and learn how to dress for their body type. She also has a hobby of flower arranging. Her eyes are always wide open looking for treasures from nature to arrange in vases and display around her house or share with someone else. One of her favorites is Queen Anne’s Lace found growing wild in fields or roadside; in fact, she tries to keep cutters and a bucket with her at all times!
She is married to Sam. They have 4 children who are all married, six grandchildren and a black lab, Ella.
